Bristol Community Church – is exactly what it says on the tin – a church with a real heart for the community. For this reason, six years ago, we founded the BOURNE FAMILY PROJECT to offer help, support and advice to local families.

We work alongside parents and relevant agencies, to help families become united. We encourage parents to be confident and positive about their skills and their approach to the issues they face. Our support often extends to helping individuals recover from issues such as loss or bereavement and we encourage them to use their experiences to build their self-esteem and promote physical, social and emotional well-being.

We have strong links and partnerships with our other community groups such as Castaways, Kingstots Toddler Group, Treasure Tots Pre-school Group, Fun Factory and summer play schemes.

The project is funded primarily through private donation, ongoing fundraising and external grant awards – we rely heavily on these funds in order to provide the services, courses and groups we offer.

Our services include: -

Coping with Kids

A short parenting course which aims to help mums and dads build confidence and skills in managing their child(ren’s) behaviour positively. It encourages parents and children to enjoy their time together and have fun.

Counselling

We have a team of professionally qualified Christian and non-Christian counsellors who provide a totally confidential service. Accessible to anyone, this service can be accessed through self referral or referral by an external body. Please feel free to call us on either a Tuesday or Wednesday if you require further information or would like an informal chat.

Art Therapy

This direct work for children enables the expression of feelings and emotions around difficult life experiences. Through artistic creativity, it is hoped that underlying thoughts and feelings are uncovered in order to start the process of understanding them.

Creating Confidence

A short course for anyone who would like to look at strategies to develop their confidence, reflect on their skills and achievements, and begin to look at personal goals for the future. This course is run twice a year.

Learning Through Play

This interactive parent and child play session, with one of our dedicated play workers, aims to demonstrate ways for parents to maximise their enjoyment of their children through positive play and enhance their children’s learning experience.
